Media Arts (Video Productions and Broadcasting)
The Media Arts Pathway is a pathway in which students learn the basics through advanced programs and applications in all things Media Arts. Students in this pathway focus on photography, video productions, Online Media production and broadcast media. Students in advanced courses prepare themselves for college and careers in the creative realms of photography, online content production and media influencing, podcasts, movies, television and photographic print media. Completing the 3 year pathway will earn you Pathway Recognition at the Graduation Ceremony.Students in this pathway are also enrolled in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that provides students the opportunity to participate in conferences and competitions locally, statewide, and internationally. The organization Digital Arts Pathway students join is called SkillsUSA.
Students take Video Production 1 as the introductory level course for this pathway. Students can then complete the pathway by taking Media Arts 2 & 3 after taking one of the introductory level courses. Courses in this pathway include the following:
VIDEO PRODUCTION 1
Video Production I will provide students with a basic understanding of storytelling on screen. Students will study the history of film, film genres, production process, filming techniques, industry vocabulary, and mise en scene. Furthermore, students will learn to view film critically by studying the relationship between film and society and the effect of biases in film and television. Students will also practice the art of video production and become proficient in the basic skills of the video camera and video editing software while applying the fundamentals of design, composition, and thematic organization. Students will ultimately produce various works reflecting the school and community, such as documentaries, news broadcasts, narrative short films, advertisement, and community service announcements. This course is a visual and performing arts elective, and will focus on artistry behind filmmaking alongside its technical aspects. Students can expect regular reading, assignments, research, and writing as well as hands-on video production. No previous experience is required for this course. Students who successfully complete Video Production 1 have the opportunity to earn college credit through San Joaquin Delta College.

MEDIA ARTS 2
This course is designed as the concentrator course for second year CTE students who previously completed Video Production 1. In this class, students work with projects based around video and broadcast media. Students will learn both Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. Being able to edit photos and video at a high level will give students an advantage in the industry if they choose to pursue any of these fields in the future.
MEDIA ARTS 3
This course is designed as the CTE capstone course for third year CTE students who previously completed Media Arts 2. In this class, students will decide to specialize in either video production or broadcast video. Students will compete a capstone project based on their area of emphasis. Students choosing video production will work on a variety of movie projects and complete a video capstone project. Students who choose broadcast video will create a professional portfolio of work, and engage in live broadcasting..
