Course Description
ENGLISH 9: One year course.
This course integrates the 9/10 Common Core English Language arts standards of reading for literature, reading for informational text, writing, speaking and listening, and language by focusing of literary texts, informational texts and writing. Students study a variety of literary works: novels, plays, poetry, short stories, and nonfiction and informational texts. Within the study of literature, students review basic skills and learn to write various modes of discourse including the autobiographical and expository essays. Speaking, the study of grammatical conventions, and sequential vocabulary development are an integral part of the course. Examples of core literary works explored during the freshman year include Romeo and Juliet, A Separate Peace, Lord of the Flies, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Fulfills the UC/CSU “b” requirement. Meets NCAA requirements.
