Course Description
ENGLISH 10: One year course.
This course integrates the 9/10 Common Core English Language arts standards of reading for literature, reading for informational text, writing, speaking and listening, and language by focusing on literary texts, informational texts and writing. Students will explore literary works from varied authors from around the world. In addition to grammatical conventions, standard speaking skills, and vocabulary development, writing skills and close reading skills are integral to this course. Students will study a variety of literary works such as novels, plays, nonfiction, poetry, and short stories. Examples of core literary works explored during the sophomore year include The Odyssey, The Hunger Games, Fahrenheit 451, and All Quiet on the Western Front. Examples of informational text include The Gettysburg Address, Biography of Erich Maria Remarque, and WWI: A Soldier’s Story. Fulfills the UC/CSU “b” requirement. Meets NCAA requirements.
