Course Description

ENGLISH 12 (Senior Year): Students examine major works of literature organized into thematic units. Each unit contains poetry, short stories, and novels that revolve around the themes for each unit.  Themes include creation of self, relationships, alienation, and making choices in modern society. As students read assigned American and European works, they have the opportunity to reflect on these important themes by writing in multiple modes and creating cross-disciplinary projects. Examples of core literary works explored during the Senior year include 1984, Catcher in the Rye, Hamlet, The Kite Runner, and The Things They Carried.  Fulfills the UC/CSU “b” requirement.
