Honors Human Body Systems

Course Description

HONORS HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS:  One year course;  Prerequisite: Completion Biology with a “C” or higher   Recommended: Completion Biology with a “B” or higher, Principles of the Biomedical Sciences with a “C” or higher, co-enrollment in Chemistry or Physics and Math 2 (or higher). Open to grades 10-12.

Students in this class examine the interactions of human body systems as they explore identity, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis. Exploring science in action, students build organs and tissues on a skeletal Maniken®; use data acquisition software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflex and voluntary action, and respiration; and take on the roles of biomedical professionals to solve real-world medical cases. This course  fulfills the UC/CSU “d” requirement or “g” requirement for college entry. Meets NCAA requirements.  This course is anticipated to fulfill the UC/CSU “g” college prep elective requirement.
