Honors Medical Interventions

Course Description

HONORS MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS:  One year course;  Prerequisite: Completion Human Body Systems  with a “C” or higher, co-enrollment in Chemistry or Physics and Math 2 (or higher). Open to grades 11-12.

Students follow the life of a fictitious family as they investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. Students explore how to detect and fight infection; screen and evaluate the code in human DNA; evaluate cancer treatment options; and prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail. Through real-world cases, students are exposed to a range of interventions related to immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics. This course fulfills the  UC/CSU “d” requirement or “g” requirement for college entry. Meets NCAA requirements. This course is anticipated to fulfill the UC/CSU “g” college prep elective requirement.
