AP Environmental Science

Course Description

AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE:  One year course; Open to Grades 11-12. Prerequisite:  Geometry or Intermediate Algebra 2, biology and chemistry with a B or higher,.  

This course focuses on developing the methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with this problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them.  Throughout the year students will focus on strengthening their scientific practices - modeling, mathematical application, data analysis and written communication of findings. Students should expect to spend significant amounts of time outside of class, especially in the areas of research, problem solving, and preparation of lab reports and a summer assignment.  More information can be found on this AP College Board link. This is an interdisciplinary science course, so it is anticipated to fulfill both life and physical science requirements. Meets NCAA requirements.  This course is anticipated to fulfill UC/CSU ā€œdā€ lab science requirement or ā€œgā€ elective.
