Course Description

PHYSICS:  One year course; Open to grades 9-12.  Prerequisite:  Concurrent enrollment in Math III or higher.   Recommended: Completion of Math II and Chemistry with a grade of B or higher.

This course is designed for students enrolled in Math III or higher who are college bound and interested in pursuing a career in physical sciences or medicine but are not ready to commit to AP Physics 1.  This course will prepare students for success in a general physics college course. Physics is concerned with describing our physical world and the resulting interactions. Students will model and manipulate mathematical expressions to describe observations of motion and forces, momentum and energy, heat and thermodynamics, waves and electrical and magnetic phenomena and cover Earth Science Standards outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards.   Project and laboratory work will support the understanding and application of be the central focus of the course. Students should expect to spend time outside of class, especially in the areas of research, problem solving, and preparation of lab reports. This course fulfills UC/CSU ā€œdā€ lab science requirement. Meets NCAA requirements.
