MHHS Mustangs boys tennis team

.The MHHS Mustangs boys tennis team traveled south to Modesto to take on the Beyer Patriots in a battle of undefeated teams for league supremacy Thursday. While the competition was fierce, the Mustangs eventually emerged victorious with a 8-1 win and sole possession of 1st place in the Western Athletic Conference at 7-0 (12-0 overall)!

At #1 singles, Super Sophomore #1 Eidan Mercado took on the previously undefeated Juan Pablo Padillo of Beyer. While he struggled a little early, Mercado won the last 9 games of the match to defeat Padillo 6-2, 6-0. At #2 singles, Super Sophomore #2 and co-captain Aadi Rajan took on Ryan Moore of Beyer. Rajan also started slowly losing the first game but won the next 12 to finish off Moore 6-1, 6-0. The match of the day went to Junior Captain Daniel Zhang who dominated Beyer #3 Matt Davis, 6-0, 6-0. Zhang also received the player of the match award from Coach Su. Junior Zuhair Mughal moved up to #4 singles due to the absence of senior veteran Pranav Sundar but still won easily 6-0, 6-2. At #5, playing singles for the first time this year due to the absence of Sundar and Jena was sophomore Nathan Zachariah who had a tough time against a very solid #5 Adrian Fuentes from Beyer losing 4-6, 1-6. At #6 singles, also playing singles for the first time was freshman Aprameya Rao who came back from 1-4 down in the second set and won a very tough match against the Beyer #6 6-4, 6-4. It was also the 5th point for MH which clinched the victory.

The doubles teams of sophomore Parthiv Algubellie & senior Aarya Vishnu (#1), juniors Rishi Patel and Tanish Tyagi (#2) won their matches relatively. At #3 doubles, the team of sophomore Andy Su Jr and freshman Anirudh Baskar jumped on top early and won the first set 6-1. They were cruising in the second set leading 5-3 until a brief lapse allowed the Beyer team to tie the score at 5-5. Baskar and Su buckled down with encouragement from their teammates and won the next 2 games and the match with some solid shotmaking.
