Short-term Independent Study Update July 1, 2023

.Hello Mustang Families, As we head into the end of the school year, here are the new Independent Study updates for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Governing Board recently approved updates to Administrative Regulation 6158 and Administrative Regulation 5113. The updated policies will be effective July 1, 2023. Below is a summary of the changes.

AR 6158: Independent Study

The maximum length of a short-term independent study contract will increase from ten (10) to fourteen (14) school days.

Violations of an Independent Study Agreement may result in:

    • Loss of eligibility for future independent study contracts
    • SART/SARB referral for unexcused absences prior to or following Independent Study
    • Activity Restriction/Loss of Privileges
    • Mandatory Saturday School
    • Loss of school and/or class placement on Day 18 without verification
    • Citation from San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department

 

AR 5113: Absences and Excuses

The maximum number of allowable illness absences, without a doctor’s note, will increase from five (5) to ten (10) school days.

Timeline to clear absences will increase from forty-eight (48) hours to seventy-two (72) hours.
