The MHHS Mustangs Boys Tennis Team, #2 seed in the CIF sac joaquin sectional division 2 playoffs, hosted the #7 seed Woodcreek Timberwolves on Monday, 5/8. While some of the matches were close, the Mustangs were able to cruise to an 8-1 victory and advance to the sectional semifinals against #3 seed Rodriguez High on Wednesday at home.
The top 5 singles all won in straight sets, losing no more than 3 games.
The #3 doubles team of sophomore Nathan Zachariah and freshman Anirudh Baskar continued their solid play, winning their match 6-0, 6-0 and the players of the match award from Coach Su. Both the #1 doubles team of Andy Su and Parthiv Algubelli and the #2 doubles team of Tanish Tyagi and Rishi Patel won in straight sets. The only loss of the day was at #6 singles where sophomore Dhruv Jena could not close out the match in the second set and lost in a 3rd set tie breaker.
"We played well today but the job is not done. We need to be much better on Wednesday against Rodriguez," said Coach Andy Su.
