Junior Ryan Nguyen is the first Mountain House High School Student to earn his Commercial Remote Pilot Certification after completing our drone course this spring. The 10-week, after-school course ended last week, and Ryan passed the FAA exam to earn the certification 4 days later. Ryan took the course because he is interested in pursuing a career in the aviation field and has always been fascinated by planes. He said, “Something I found interesting in the course is that a lot of the topics overlap with the requirements for becoming a commercial pilot!” Ryan’s eventual goal is to become a commercial airline pilot, and he found the course provided a solid foundation.
The course was completed by 24 students and 2 teachers. It covered everything students need to pass the FAA Part 107 exam, mirroring the aeronautical knowledge all pilots must know, including airspace regulations, weather, navigation, and communication protocols. Students who pass the exam are certified pilots and can work for businesses that provide drone services or start their own. We are exploring adding drones to our CTE pathways for aerial videography,
