The International leadership conference provided members with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, network and compete against the best of the best. The theme of this year’s conference challenged members to shatter their expectations and adjust their goals accordingly. We started our adventure at the Oakland Airport and took a longer than expected flight to Nashville. With an industry pilot shortage and an increase in summer travel, it meant system wide delays and cancellations leading up to our trip. We were lucky enough to get to Nashville despite a 3 hour delay early Wednesday morning.
After some much needed rest, students were able to explore the Gaylord Opryland Resort. The resort boasted a unique atrium full of tropical plants, waterfalls, a river, and most importantly air conditioning. It was a much appreciated refuge from the triple digit weather and humidity awaiting us outside. The opening ceremony marked the official start of the conference and the first time all 10,500 attendees came together. Students were excited to see this year’s keynote speaker: Social Media Influencer Dr. Mike. He spoke to students about the importance of learning about their passions that extend beyond the textbook. He emphasized the importance of balancing academics with gaining new experiences to acquire a sense of how to use their unique talents and interests to become successful.
The next few days consisted of competitive events, workshops, and the HOSA Expo. The HOSA Expo offered interactive booths with college and university representatives available for students to learn more about their programs. Students also found the time to hang out at the mall and explore the SoundWaves waterpark. We gathered on Friday night to attend the Recognition Ceremony where our school was recognized for community service hours. Afterwards, a small group of our students chose to stay and watch the Hypnotist Show which consisted of people from the audience being hypnotized and doing wacky things on stage.
Our final day of ILC gave many students the opportunity to rest and explore the area one last time before our trip back home. We ended the day with the Grand Awards Ceremony where Mountain House High School was represented on the main stage in multiple events (see details below).
Thank you to everyone who has supported these students throughout the year including parents, chaperones, teachers, advisors, administrators and the district office. We couldn’t have made it this far without your support!
