MHHS Girls Varsity Tennis Team Kicks of the 2022 Season with a WIN!

zThe MHHSGirls Varsity tennis team (the defending Division 4 sectional champs) kicked off their 2022 season with an away match at Division I powerhouse Lincoln High of Stockton.  The Lady Mustangs started slow and fell behind in 5 of the 6 singles matches against a very well coached Lady Trojans team.  Senior captain Malvika Seth changed her strategy and came back to win the first set 6-3 after falling down 0-2.  The second set was easier as she controlled the pace of play and won 6-2.  The only other singles match that the Lady Mustangs won was at #4 singles by sophomore sensation Anisha Pandey 6-3, 6-1.  The Mustangs fell behind 2-4 after singles and had to win all 3 doubles to win the overall team match.  The veteran team of Akuokor and Akweley Sai defeated the Lady Trojans #1 doubles 6-1, 6-1.  Senior Sumedha Kundurthi and sophomore Kavya Nigam also won at #2 doubles 6-3, 6-1.  The team match came down to #3 doubles where 1st year players junior Sehjal Nival and freshman Ananya Reddy (the only freshman in the line up today) fought hard and won the first set 6-4.  The Lady Trojans then stormed back in the second set and took an early 4-1 lead.  The New Kids on the Block (Nival and Reddy) regained their focus and won the next 5 games to clinch the match 6-4, 6-4 and overall team match 5-4.  They were also awarded the Players of the Match Award by Coach Andy Su

Next Tuesday, 8/23 the Lady Mustangs will take on Rocklin High (in Rocklin), the defending Division 1 sectional champs.
