MHHS Lady Mustangs Varsity Tennis vs. Gregori High of Modesto

 

Gregori started fast and dominated the singles.  Out of the first 5 singles matches, only senior captain Malvika Seth pulled out a win against a very tough Gregori #1 Kate Parks and was awarded the player of the match award.  At #6 singles, junior Akhila Maganti started slow against a very powerful opponent but fought back from 1 set down to take the match into a 3rd set tie breaker but ultimately losing 4-7 in the tie-break.  The Lady Mustangs controlled the 1st 2 doubles winning both matches 6-0, 7-5.  The third doubles team of senior veteran Jannat Baig and junior veteran Neha Bhaskarabhotla had the match of the day.  The duo fell behind early losing the first set 3-6 but steadied themselves in the second set winning 6-3.  In the third set tie-breaker, they played their best tennis of the day jumping out to a 7-1 lead and was able to close it out 10-4 without too much stress for their aging coach.

 

"I'm not too worried about wins and losses in the preseason.  I only schedule matches against the toughest schools in the section to give my team some good competition so they can be more prepared for the regular season and playoffs" said Coach Su, in his 5th year as the Lady Mustangs head coach.
