*** A MESSAGE FROM COACH RENO ***
Dear Mountain House High School Community,
As of 11/1/2024 I am stepping down as the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach.
As I step away from my role as head coach of the MHHS basketball program, I want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible journey that began in 2014. It’s been a privilege to coach such talented young athletes and to be a part of a community that has supported us every step of the way.
Over the last decade, we achieved remarkable milestones together:
To the current students of MHHS, I leave you with this: As you come of age, remember that time is your most valuable currency. Be relentless while maintaining balance. Embrace authenticity and grace in all you do, and never take people for granted. Your journey is uniquely yours—strive to make it a story worth telling.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to many who have made this journey possible:
Thank you all for being a part of this incredible chapter in my life. I look forward to watching the next generation of athletes thrive at MHHS!
Over the last decade, we achieved remarkable milestones together:
- We maintained a perfect record with no academic ineligibles over ten years—close calls aside!
- I was honored to be named Coach of the Year twice (2017, 2024).
- We claimed three league championships, showcasing our hard work and determination.
- Our girls' program recorded the most wins in school history (102-68) from 2014-2021, while the boys' team achieved a remarkable record (65-22) from 2021-2024.
- To my favorite Athletic Directors: Renee Nunn, Guadalupe Galindo, and Levinia Woods.
- To my wonderful Principals: Adam Auerbach and Ben Fobert.
- To all the Vice Principals and MHHS staff who supported our vision.
- To the amazing coaches I’ve collaborated with over the years: Pang Kol, Jodi Larson, Lindsay Webb, Stephen Gatehouse, Balaji Kannan, Darren Watson, Trevor Main, Roy Foster, Kay Foster, and Jabari Carr.
- A special shout-out to my basketball coaching network: Jonny Canalin, Brice Fantasia, Eric King, Eddie Hernandez, Chris Wiseman, and Tony Amundsen.
- To all the media and newspapers that highlighted our journey.
- And to the supportive parents and community members—your feedback has been invaluable.
- To all the students who played in our programs since 2014—thank you for the unforgettable memories.
Thank you all for being a part of this incredible chapter in my life. I look forward to watching the next generation of athletes thrive at MHHS!
With gratitude and love,
Coach Reno Ursal
