Dance Pathway

Dance teamMountain House High school's Dance pathway students focus on the direct creation of art and entertainment by the individual artist.  Dance artists are themselves the medium of creative expression.  Students in this pathway learn different genres of dance, produce their own dance numbers, and participate in the school's dance team, Synergy.
 
Students in this pathway can choose from among the following courses, and are awarded a pathway cord and recognition upon graduation:  
 
BEGINNING DANCE
This course is open to any 10-12th grade student and has a concentration on movement fundamentals through the dance elements of time, space and energy. The intent is to give students an awareness and reverence for the physical body and its athletic and expressive capabilities. Students experience these elements through a variety of genres(modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and others). Introductory elements of dance choreography and performance are also included. 
 
INTERMEDIATE DANCE
This course is open to any 11-12th grade student with previous dance experience, and has concentration on movement refinement through the dance elements of time, space and energy. The intent is to further students an awareness and reverence for the physical body and its athletic and expressive capabilities. Students experience these elements through a variety of genres (modern, jazz, hip hop, ballet, and others). More advanced elements of dance choreography and performance are also included. Prerequisite: Beginning Dance or teacher approval. Fulfills UC/CSU “f “ requirement.
 
HIP-HOP DANCE
This course will teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography in the Hip-Hop genre. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun. Anticipated to fulfill UC/CSU “f” requirement.

ADVANCED DANCE
This course is designed to give students an intense technical and performance experience. This course is for the advanced dancer with an emphasis on technical development at the professional level. Students will be provided with professional training in ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, and others. A wide variety of performance opportunities will be explored. This course incorporates the intermediate dance. Emphasis will be placed on the total dancer as a solo performer and ensemble. Prerequisite: Audition. Anticipated to fulfill UC/CSU “f” requirement.
