Elements of Grading
In addition to our Mastery Based Learning, Mountain House High School seeks to follow evidence based practices that addresses the common problems seen in traditional grading practices. Following Dr. Douglass Reeves Work in grading practices, we seek to implement practices in grading students that meet the following four criteria:
- Accuracy
- Fairness
- Specificity
- Timeliness
By eliminating "toxic grading practices" that do not encourage students, and implementing accurate, fair, specific and timely feedback, we believe that students will be motivated to get the work done and turn the conversation away from how many points a student receives, to a conversation about mastery of concepts and standards.
